Brushing + Washing Hair
Learning about hair washing and brushing is essential for maintaining scalp health, preventing tangles and breakage, and promoting overall hygiene. Proper techniques help remove dirt, oil, and buildup while distributing natural oils for healthier hair. Regular brushing can also stimulate the scalp, improving circulation and supporting hair growth. For individuals with sensory sensitivities, understanding different tools and methods can make hair care more comfortable and manageable, reducing stress and promoting independence in personal grooming.
Taking Care of Skin
Learning about skincare is essential for maintaining healthy skin, preventing infections, and managing conditions like dryness, acne, or sensitivity. Proper skincare routines help protect the skin’s barrier, reduce irritation, and promote overall well-being. For individuals with sensory sensitivities, understanding different textures, temperatures, and products can make skincare more comfortable and enjoyable. Developing a consistent skincare routine fosters self-care, boosts confidence, and supports long-term skin health.
Grooming Nails
Learning about nail grooming is important for maintaining hygiene, preventing infections, and promoting overall health. Regular trimming and cleaning help prevent dirt buildup, bacteria, and painful conditions like ingrown nails. Proper nail care also supports sensory regulation, as smooth, well-maintained nails reduce discomfort and sensitivity. For individuals with sensory challenges, learning comfortable grooming techniques can make the process less stressful and more manageable, fostering independence and self-care confidence.
Oral Hygiene Education
Learning about oral hygiene is essential for maintaining healthy teeth and gums, preventing cavities, gum disease, and bad breath. Proper brushing and flossing remove plaque and bacteria, reducing the risk of infections and long-term dental issues. For individuals with sensory sensitivities, exploring different toothbrushes, toothpaste, and techniques can make oral care more comfortable. Developing a consistent oral hygiene routine promotes overall health, confidence, and independence in self-care.
Skills Training
Skills training for daily routines helps individuals develop structure, independence, and confidence in managing everyday tasks. By building consistent habits, individuals can reduce stress, improve time management, and enhance overall well-being. This training is especially beneficial for those with executive functioning challenges, as it breaks tasks into manageable steps and creates routines that support success. Increased efficiency in daily activities leads to greater productivity, allowing individuals to focus on personal goals, work, and relationships with less overwhelm.
Processing Security
Learning and voicing vulnerabilities in a safe and calm environment fosters emotional growth, self-acceptance, and healing. When individuals feel secure, they can express their thoughts and emotions without fear of judgment, leading to deeper self-awareness and resilience. A setting with reduced sensory input allows for greater focus on self-exploration and learning, minimizing distractions and overwhelm. This serene atmosphere promotes relaxation, making it easier to process emotions, build coping skills, and engage fully in the therapeutic experience.

Professional Boundaries & Ethical Considerations
This service is educational and therapeutic in nature but does not replace services provided by other medical professionals. As a licensed mental health counselor and licensed cosmetologist, ethical boundaries and professional standards will be upheld in the following ways:
-
Respect for Autonomy – Clients will be encouraged to develop their own self-care routines in a way that respects their preferences, cultural practices, and sensory needs.
-
Informed Consent – This form ensures clients understand the nature of services provided and their voluntary participation.
-
Dual Relationship Management – While the counselor is also a licensed cosmetologist, this service remains focused on education and skill-building rather than performing personal grooming services. Clients will be expected to perform the hygiene tasks themselves while receiving verbal instruction and support.
-
Confidentiality – As with all therapeutic services, information shared during sessions will remain confidential, except in cases where mandated reporting is required (e.g., harm to self or others).
-
Non-Coercion – Participation in this service is entirely voluntary, and clients are free to decline or modify aspects of the education to fit their comfort level.
